Blog Series I - Why is America Getting Fatter? "Eat Fast, Get Fat!" |

Bob and I are always trying to figure out why America is getting fatter and fatter. We have recently spoke of the "Holiday 10", which has mysteriously transformed over the years into the "Holiday 15". We know there are more processed foods, high fructose corn syrup has reared it's ugly head, and dairy has become a "health" food, but...
We are more educated, we have more gyms and training studios, and personal trainers are a household name! So, we come back to the question - Why is America getting fatter?
How about this contributor...
A recent study shows that people who eat quickly are 3 times more likely to be overweight! That certainly fits into our society, right? Everyone is cramming food down their throat just to get on to the next task. And even if it happened to be healthy food, it would still be over-eating and still contribute to weight gain.
There is a receptor that sits just above your stomach and warns the brain to have you stop eating when the stomach is nearing full...kind of a "Full Capacity" signal. The problem - when you eat quickly the receptor may have notified the brain, which notified your hand to stop, but...you have already eaten more and there is still food between your mouth and stomach = extra calories = weight gain!!!
Try slowing down your eating, and try a glass of water before you eat. Should help with this problem.
