No More Reading Food Labels |

Or at least, less reading if the new Smart Choices Program has anything to do with it. Did you hear about this new nutritional labeling program? After reviewing the details I (for the most part) like it. Dietitians of America have developed a big label that has a large green check mark, number of calories, and number of servings in the product. There are guidelines for total fat, saturated fat, sodium, added sugars, and other ingredients.
Now that is a very brief synopsis of the program, but here is what I like about it...
1. It is something, and someone taking a global measure to tackle obesity. People have proven they don't think about what they are putting in their cart or mouth, so here is an "aid" to help them think less and like I always say - make better choices.
2. It helps people sift through the confusion. Some people don't want to, or don't know how to read a label and understand what to look for...let the professionals do it.
3. It narrows the consumers choice, and in the very worst case they are still only choosing something with relatively low sugars, sodium, or fat.
It all comes down to making better choices. With your diet, with your fitness program - make better choices more often and you will success in the long run.
