Our Troops Are More Important Than Our Own Kids! |

It's true! We are putting more value in those protecting our country, than we do in those who are the future of our country! Why, you ask? Here is a paragraph from a recent article about the fitness training standards being raised at Fort Lewis:
"The post has gone back to basics for physical fitness training. A bright red line has been drawn around the magic hour of 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. each day, Monday through Friday, and set aside for soldiers to do push-ups and sit-ups, calisthenics, combatives and, of course, running – with and without body armor and rucksacks."
Okay, so I agree, and I think we all agree - get our troops in the best shape, so that we have the most elite, physically fit people to defend our country...I am not arguing that one.
But why are we cutting physical education programs in schools, requiring less of student with regards to fitness training? Cutting P.E., but not Geometry - I will argue the lifetime pro's and con's of those 2 any day! As a society that is getting fatter, why are we not seeking optimum nutrition and better meal planning for schools, rather than teaching the square root of 225? I say that a bit tongue and cheek, but think about it - as a functioning adult in society, what comes into play more often - meal planning, fitness training, and optimum nutrition...OR...the square root of 225???
"The command revised the post’s PT standards to make sure soldiers know “we must be physically fit at all times to take on the physical and mental stresses of combat.” What about being fit to hold off being teased and being labeled the "fat kid"...how mentally stressful is that? Or how about being 30 years old, and the last time you engaged in any remote sort of fitness training was the one required semester in high school back in 2008!!!
We are so used to fast-paced, quick-fix, and live-in-the-now society that we are not looking to the true security of our future - healthy youth! Do what you can to implement fitness training and optimum nutrition in your child's life - it starts at home. Let me know if I can help...really, let me know.
