Personal Training - The Choice is Not Rocket Science! |

I read an article recently titled "Tips To Help Pick a Personal Trainer". The author spoke about education, motivation, and accountability as the key components to look for in a trainer. Having been in the personal training business for 25 years, I think a lot of people over-analyze the process when choosing personal training.
Forget about education! I say that a bit "tongue and cheek", but what do you really care about...the diploma on the wall or the results you will achieve with personal training? Would you ask Arnold Schwarzenegger to see his personal training certification if he offered to train you? You want results. You want exercise plans that shed body fat, and tone your muscles. To be quite honest, I have seen many trainers with a bunch of letters behind their name, and for the most part they are too busy spewing information to the client, they get nowhere with exercise!!! Find a personal trainer without an ego (although we all have a little bit of one, but...) and one who seems to really care about your goals.
I agree with the motivation part, but a personal trainer doesn't motivate you...you motivate yourself. A good trainer will provide the tools you need to get motivated, but ultimately it lies deep within you, and the trigger is different for everyone. Over the years, one thing I have found that tends to motivate people is having fun. Enjoying fitness training, looking forward to their next personal training session, while still working hard...because what does this translate to? Again, RESULTS! If you have fun, and look forward to your next session - #1 you are more apt to show up (accountability) and #2 - you will work harder for your personal trainer...kind of like the coach or teacher you had in high school - the ones you enjoyed the most were the ones you performed best for!
Find a personal trainer who is personable. If they can't communicate effectively, or can't communicate at all, things will not work out in the end...no matter how well their exercise plans are designed!
Find a trainer who fits in your budget. If you can't afford 1-on-1 personal training, seek out a friend to workout with or look for a group fitness training class. On our website, we offer a wonderful option for those who are on a budget, but are still looking for fitness training that gets RESULTS.
