Would You Shave Your Head For a Better Body? |

I have always said that pure weight loss is mostly a psychological issue, not physical. People try fad diets, buy quick-fix fitness training machines, and even starve themselves to get to their ideal weight.
I read this in a recent article in USA Today...check out the drastic measures people may take in order to be their ideal weight... "Some women would take drastic steps to hit their ideal weight, a poll for Fitness magazine shows. And we're not talking extreme diets. Nearly a quarter (23%) would spend a week in jail; 23% would shave their head; 22% would wear a bikini on TV; and 21% would trade 10 years of life, according to the survey of 1,000 women 18 and older. Most (85%) would rather have an extra toe than 50 extra pounds."
An extra toe!! Over my personal training career, admittedly, I have not encountered these "trade-outs", but people who want lasting, pure weight loss need to make trade-offs everyday! While the paragraph above has a comical tone, and those surveyed are probably very serious - they are quite obviously looking for a "quick-fix". When quite simply it just comes back to solid meal planning and consistent fitness training.
Those of you interested in pure weight loss, that don't want it to ever come back, understand that it is about making a lifestyle change. And change means trade-offs! Trading the couch for a sound exercise program. Trading junk food for health-conscious food - ensuring optimum nutrition in your meal planning. And probably trading some "otherwise-wasted-time" for planning your strategy for success each week. It is not easy, so don't trade everything at once...small steps until you work each one into your lifestyle!
