The Truth About Abs, & How To Work Them |

I always hear about upper abs and lower abs, and targeting "love handles"...etc, etc.
The truth is, nothing can really be "targeted". Abs are abs. There is no upper and there is no lower. The abdominal wall is one complete muscle that move is unison...uppper and lower. You have the obliques on the side, but essentially abs are abs.
Okay, so what is the best way to work them? 3 times per week? Every day? 1000 reps? 50 reps?
My suggestion would be to do abs about 3-4 days per week, and utilize various exercises to stress different areas of the abdominal wall. This is where people think they are working upper and lower. Certain exercises, for example, the traditional crunch - work the entire abdominal wall, but put more stress on the "upper" portion of the wall. Reverse crunches, do the opposite...work the entire wall, but stress the lower.
My personal favorite is the bicycle crunch - proven to be one of the best exercises for the recruitment of muscles in the abdominal wall. The best part is you can do them with no equipment right in your own home!! When you do them, you know why they are the best!!!
