Finally! A Ban on Fast Food Advertising... |

...or maybe it is just talk about banning ads for fast food...but it is a start - it all starts somewhere! It is a fact that fast food has contributed to the obesity of America...how much? That is open for debate.
But The National Bureau of Economic Development has conducted research that claims the absence of fast food commercials would reduce childhood obesity by 18%...that would be a step in the right direction considering the trend over the past 20 years.
Matt just mentioned it in his blog the other day. Some fast food restaurants are putting up calories counts on the menus, but it just doesn't matter until the government steps in to make real change. Sweden, Norway, and Finland have banned these ads with great results.
I would like to think it is coming. Seat belt laws saving lives. Banned cigarette smoking in public in many states. Isn't the next logical step to concentrate on the real problem - obesity. It is the leading cause of death in the United States, and I will argue that any day! Forget cancer, forget heart disease, diabetes - all related to better food choices - and that is a fact! Government needs to take a look at the real epidemic here and step up and take action.
