Coca Cola Under FDA Scrutiny. |

Coca-Cola came out with a new product - Diet Coke Plus "With Vitamins & Minerals". The FDA is saying that Coke cannot make these claims. They say that Diet Coke doesn't have enough nutrients alone to claim "plus" and that it is inappropriate to add extra nutrients to snack foods and carbonated beverages. The FDA's requests for change have been unanswered, but Coca-Cola does plan to respond, but not change the label yet.
Here is the deal - my "Buyer Beware" advice for the week - As you are amidst your New Year's Resolutions and making healthier choices, don't give in to the "bandwagon" companies who are trying to make junk food, fast food, and even alcoholic beverages appear healthy.
Fat Free is not always better - most fats are replaced with sugars which can be just as harmful.
Low Cal/Low Carb can be deceiving - okay so it doesn't have many calories/carbs, but how much fat is in it and what are the carbs in the product?
Sugar Free may be nice, but not if it is replaced with artificial sweetener.
It just comes back to reading labels and not being fooled by the "book cover". Take the time to know what you are eating, and when in doubt shop on the outer portions of the grocery store - where the produce and meats are located!!!
